Police in Kyegegwa District have arrested a local resident in connection with the theft and slaughter of a goat from a farm in Kasambya Village, Kyegegwa Town Council.

According to police reports, the incident occurred on the night of April 15, 2026, when the suspect, Bakebelamu Teopista, allegedly broke into the victim's residence and stole one goat. The animal was reportedly slaughtered just 10 metres from the victim's home.
Upon receiving the complaint, officers from Kyegegwa Police, supported by investigators and the K9 unit, swiftly responded to the scene. The crime scene was found to be well preserved, enabling effective evidence collection.

The police sniffer dog, Bruno, played a pivotal role by picking up a human scent at the location. Bruno tracked the scent for approximately one kilometre, leading officers directly to the residence of Bakebelamu Teopista, who operates a butcher stall in the area.

The suspect was arrested without incident. Officers recovered the skin of the stolen goat, which the complainant positively identified as evidence linking it to the theft.
“Investigations into the matter are ongoing,” police stated, adding that the suspect is expected to be charged accordingly.

Kyegegwa District, located in Uganda’s Western Region along the highway between Mubende and Fort Portal, is a predominantly rural area where livestock farming remains a key livelihood for many residents. Cases of livestock theft are taken seriously by local authorities due to their impact on community livelihoods.
Police have urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly to help curb livestock theft in the district.
