Police, working jointly with sister security agencies, have arrested three suspects in connection with the kidnapping of two children from Bujowali Zone, Njeru Municipality, Buikwe District.
The suspects have been identified as Odongo Richard, Derick Nkuruziza and Kasaija Dan, who police allege was the overall commander of the criminal group and was responsible for receiving and withdrawing ransom money in Kampala.
A firearm suspected to have been used in the commission of criminal activities was also recovered during the operation.
The case dates back to September 7, 2026, when two armed and masked men allegedly attacked the home of Mr Mugabanya in Bujowali Zone at about 7:00pm. At the time, the children were reportedly watching television under the care of domestic workers while their father was away.
According to police, the assailants injured the domestic workers after they raised an alarm, confined them in a bedroom and fled with two of the children.
The kidnappers later allegedly demanded a ransom of Shs100 million. A kidnapping case was subsequently registered, prompting a joint operation by security agencies to investigate the incident and track down the suspects.
On September 17, 2026, the two children were recovered from Malindi Village, Wakisi Sub-county, Buikwe District, and were reported to be safe.
Police said the suspects are also being investigated over their alleged involvement in previous kidnapping incidents, including the abduction of a female school director in Njeru Municipality in May 2026.
Investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other alleged accomplices.
The three suspects remain in custody pending further inquiries and will be processed in accordance with the law.
