A primary school teacher in Sheema District is still in shock and excitement after spending part of his modest salary on sports betting and emerging as the winner of one of the top prizes.
Christopher Ainembabazi, a resident of Ahankungu, Rwamujojo Ward, Sheema Central Division in Sheema Municipality, was announced the lucky winner of a brand-new Toyota Wish during a Kagwirawo Sports Betting draw held in Mbarara yesterday.
The vehicle, registration number UA 293BC, complete with all clearance documents, is now officially in Ainembabazi’s possession.
Ainembabazi, who teaches at Redeemer Primary School in Kasese, could not hide his joy after being declared the winner. “I have been betting secretly because I was always attracted by the small returns from successful bets. But I never imagined I could win something this big, even after putting in a lot over a long period. I am so happy and still can’t believe it, though it is real,” he said with excitement.

The 28-year-old, who was accompanied by his sister and two cousins, said he needed help from one of his cousins to drive the car away since he does not know how to drive. He revealed plans to use the car for business.

“I am going to give it to a driver so we can operate a taxi business, in addition to doing special hire,” Ainembabazi explained.

According to Rodgers Mbalire, the Country Manager of Kagwirawo Sports Betting, Ainembabazi is one of the lucky winners from tens of thousands of Ugandans who participated in the ongoing draw.

“We congratulate Ainembabazi on this win. He is our first winner here, but there are still more cars and prizes up for grabs. Some people doubted it, but when they saw Ainembabazi drive off with one of the five cars today, they realized it was real. All it takes is to do your sports betting with us,” Mbalire said.
