On September 6th, 2024, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni distributed 50,000 coffee seedlings to farmers in Gomba and Sembabule Districts, as part of his ongoing efforts to promote commercial agriculture and alleviate poverty in the region. The beneficiaries, hailing from Kirasi village in Gomba and Lutunku village in Sembabule, received the seedlings through the State House Comptroller, Ms. Jane Barekye. Ms. Barekye conveyed the President’s commitment to improving the livelihoods of his neighbors, stating, "The President, who owns a farm in Kisozi, Gomba, is keen to ensure that his neighbors in the two districts fight poverty through commercial agriculture. He wants you people to be rich."

Ms. Sarah Nalwanga, the coordinator of the poverty alleviation project in Gomba and Sembabule, emphasized that the President's initiative would continue until all interested farmers in the nine villages of the two districts are covered. "This project focuses specifically on the President’s neighbors in four villages in Gomba and five villages in Sembabule. Any farmer in these villages interested in receiving coffee seedlings will be included," she assured.

She further pledged that all promises made by the President would be fulfilled.

The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to President Museveni for his generosity and vowed to make the most of the seedlings to improve their incomes.

This initiative is part of a broader poverty eradication program President Museveni launched in 2011, targeting nine villages in Gomba and Sembabule. The program includes donations of cows, goats, pigs, banana plant tissues, poultry, and cash, alongside the distribution of coffee seedlings, to help households generate income and improve their standard of living.

To date, 2,035 households have benefited from the program in the two districts.
