BUSHENYI - HIV/AIDS service organizations in Bushenyi District have expressed concern over the increasing HIV prevalence rate in the area.
The town councils of Kyamuhunga, Rwentuha, and Kizinda-Kigoma have been identified as the main hotspots for HIV/AIDS in the district.
Robert Gumisiriza, the Programs Coordinator for the Bushenyi District HIV Forum, which brings together people living with HIV and AIDS service organizations, revealed that the prevalence rate currently stands at 9.4%, up from the previous 6.4%, according to Uganda AIDS Commission statistics for 2024.
He noted that efforts have been intensified to sensitize the youth to become champions in the fight against HIV in the district.

Meanwhile, Adolf Kanyomozi, the Kyamuhunga Subcounty LC3 Chairperson, attributed the increased HIV prevalence rate in Kyamuhunga to the redundancy among youth caused by the decline in tea prices in the sub-county.
