Bushenyi – The Greater Bushenyi Regional Police have launched a week-long refresher course for constables and other personnel drawn from across the region.
The training, which kicked off today at Bushenyi Main Stadium, is aimed at equipping officers with skills in public order management, physical drills, and handling civilians in preparation for the 2026 General Elections.

Regional Police Commander, SP Godfrey Achiria, said the program is part of the force's mandate to strengthen officers' readiness for election-related challenges.
“We want our officers to be physically fit, mentally prepared, and professionally trained to handle any situation that may arise during the campaigns and elections,” Achiria said.

He explained that the recently concluded NRM party primaries highlighted potential gaps in security management, serving as an eye-opener for what might unfold during campaigns and the general polls.
“The primaries exposed areas where we need to improve, especially in crowd control and response to election-related incidents. This refresher training is designed to close those gaps,” he added.

Regional Police Spokesperson, ASP Apollo Tayebwa, said 182 officers from Bushenyi, Rubirizi, Sheema, Mitooma, and Buhweju districts are taking part in this first phase of training.
“We have officers from all five districts of Greater Bushenyi, and this is just the beginning. The training will continue in phases to cover more personnel,” Tayebwa noted.

According to him, participants will undergo rigorous physical drills, shooting practice, and extensive sessions on public order management, among other skills.
“Our focus is on discipline, endurance, and professionalism. We want the public to know that the police are ready to provide security in a fair and firm manner,” he said.
