Miss Uganda 2026/27 Almorie Nagayi has described herself as “just the face” of the pageant, saying those with questions about its operations should direct them to the organisation.
Nagayi made the remarks during an interview on Galaxy TV’s Jikonkone Flexx on Saturday, October 24, less than two weeks after being crowned Miss Uganda.
The 19-year-old said she was not fully conversant with how the organisation operates, emphasising that her role as queen does not mean she is responsible for running its affairs.
She also defended her victory against suggestions that the crown could be obtained through money.
“You cannot buy your way to the Miss Uganda crown,” Nagayi said.
She attributed her victory partly to her experience in beauty pageants, citing her participation in Miss Uganda High School and Miss Teen International, where she represented Uganda.
While acknowledging that the other contestants were strong competitors, she said her experience gave her an advantage.
Nagayi also addressed the reaction to her crowning, saying she had not faced any backlash and was not concerned about what critics might say.
“Nothing negative gets to me,” she said.
The Masaka City native was crowned on October 11 at Sheraton Gardens in Kampala, succeeding Trivia Elle Muhoza.
Beyond the title, Nagayi said she intends to use her reign to advance her Beauty With Purpose project, which focuses on financial literacy and vocational training for young women and girls.
She said the initiative aims to equip young women with money-management skills and practical vocational knowledge that can help them earn an income.
On her relationship status, Nagayi said she is single, explaining that her Miss Uganda responsibilities keep her busy. She also spoke warmly about her family, saying, “We are all stars in our family.”
She is expected to represent Uganda at Miss World 2027 in Tanzania.
During the interview, Nagayi also addressed public discussion surrounding the car prize associated with the crown and the responsibilities that come with holding the Miss Uganda title.
Her description of herself as “just the face” of the pageant offers an insight into how she views her role as she begins her reign.
