Socialite Christian Asiimwe, better known as Don Chris, has been remanded to Luzira Prison after appearing before the City Hall Magistrates Court to face 127 charges of allegedly obtaining money by false pretences from job seekers. Don Chris was produced before Magistrate Nicholas Aisu on Wednesday afternoon, where the charges were read to him.
The prosecution alleges that between 2022 and 2025, Don Chris received millions of shillings from hundreds of job seekers after allegedly representing that he could secure them employment in foreign countries.
The alleged destinations included Canada, the United Kingdom, Qatar and Dubai.
The complaints have been presented in seven separate charge sheets, each containing allegations from about 20 people who reportedly paid money in connection with the promised jobs.
Don Chris is a former director of Sky Pins, a labour recruitment company that has since ceased operations. He was recently arrested in Zzana before being taken to court.
The prosecution alleges that the accused used his position and representations about employment opportunities abroad to obtain money from the complainants.
After the charges were read, the court ordered that Don Chris be remanded to Luzira Prison.
He is scheduled to return to court on September 21, 2026, when the matter will come up for mention.
The charges are allegations that remain subject to determination by the court. Don Chris is presumed innocent until proved guilty.
