The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, met with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa yesterday, delivering a special message from Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni. This high-level meeting took place at a time of heightened regional tensions, particularly regarding the conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Discussions between Gen Kainerugaba and President Ramaphosa centered on strengthening bilateral relations and addressing shared security concerns in the region. While the details of President Museveni’s message remain undisclosed, it is believed to focus on security cooperation, trade, and diplomatic efforts to enhance mutual understanding on regional affairs.
Gen Kainerugaba has played a key role in regional diplomacy, particularly in rebuilding Uganda’s relations with neighboring countries. Notably, he was instrumental in mending ties between Uganda and Rwanda, leading to the reopening of the Gatuna-Katuna border, which has since boosted bilateral trade and diplomatic relations.
His latest engagement with President Ramaphosa further underscores Uganda’s commitment to fostering regional peace, security, and economic cooperation.
