In a decisive blow to the remnants of Joseph Kony's Lord's Resistance Army (LRA), Ugandan People's Defence Forces (UPDF) commandos, in coordination with South Sudan People's Defence Forces (SSPDF) and Central African Republic (CAR) security forces, successfully destroyed three LRA camps in the Central African Republic. The operation, conducted yesterday evening, August 20, 2024, took place east of Sam Ouandja in a region long considered a stronghold for Kony's notorious rebel group. The joint military operation, which targeted key LRA hideouts, resulted in the complete destruction of the camps and the capture of significant equipment. The coordinated effort marks a critical step in dismantling the remaining elements of the LRA, a group responsible for decades of violence and terror across Central Africa.

UPDF officials have emphasized that the fight against the LRA is far from over. Any remnants of the group still hiding in the CAR or elsewhere on the continent will be relentlessly pursued. Authorities are urging LRA members to surrender for proper processing and rehabilitation. Those who choose not to surrender will continue to be regarded as criminals and will face the full force of the law.
This operation underscores the commitment of the UPDF and its regional allies to eliminate the LRA threat and bring lasting peace and stability to the affected regions.
