Debutantes Boni Consilii WFC are keeping their course toward playing in the top local women’s football league, remaining in a hopeful position after yet another scintillating away performance that has pushed them closer to the top contenders on the table.
The Isingiro-based side’s 4–0 win over Police WFC away in Kiira over the weekend pushed Brenda Nassozi’s troops to 4th position, with 6 points from 3 matches.
A brace by flying winger Sheila Mungutimu, coupled with a strike each from impressive striker Biiba Nenghamba and Catherine Natuhwera, ensured Boni Consilii moved within 3 points of table leaders URA, who have maximum points from three outings.
Boni Consilii have earned all their wins away from home, with their first coming in a 3–0 victory over Buhimba Lady Saints in Hoima, followed by the 4–0 win against Police. However, they lost 2–1 at home to current table leaders URA.
“We are not doing badly; we will keep the focus until we achieve our goal. It is good that we are picking results away from home, and the only unfortunate thing is that we lost our first home game, but it is not a setback. We still have hope of topping this group at the end,” said team manager Primus Ngabirano.
Up next for Boni Consilii is a home game against another newcomer, Presidential Initiative on Skilling Girl/Boy Child (PISGBC) WFC, at Kakyeka this Sunday.
Boni Consilii hope to collect maximum points and close the gap on URA, as second- and third-placed She Kasese and Tooro Queens, on 9 and 8 points respectively, have played one more game.
The FUFA Women Elite League is the second tier of local women’s football competition, where teams are promoted to the top flight, the FUFA Women Super League.
The league is divided into two groups: the Elizabeth Group, where Boni Consilii are competing for promotion against eight other teams, and the Rwenzori Group, which also has eight teams.
