SHEEMA - The Minister of Internal Affairs, Maj. Gen. (Rtd.) Kahinda Otafiire, has urged graduates to utilize the knowledge they have gained from university to uplift themselves and their communities.
Kahinda made these remarks during the 7th graduation ceremony of Ankole Western University (AWU), held on November 29, 2024, at the university grounds in Kabwohe Town, Sheema Municipality. A total of 418 students were awarded certificates in various courses.
Representing the Vice President, Maj. (Rtd.) Jessica Alupo, as the chief guest, Kahinda emphasized the need for graduates to focus on job creation amidst the limited employment opportunities in the country.

"Graduates should think of creating jobs rather than solely relying on being employed by the government," Kahinda said.
The Chancellor of Ankole Western University, who is also the Bishop of West Ankole Diocese, Rt. Rev. Johnson Twinomujuni, appealed to the government to approve a waiver on the university’s tax debts to support its growth and sustainability.
"We request the government to consider a waiver on tax debts to enable the university to focus more on academic excellence and infrastructural development," said Bishop Twinomujuni.
