Parental Care Nursery and Primary School Bushenyi has cemented its place among Uganda's top academic institutions after defeating Namugongo Boarding Primary School–Kitende to win the fourth edition of the National Quiz Championship. The grand finale of the competition was held yesterday at Mali Studios in Bweyogerere, Kiira Municipality, Wakiso District, drawing top schools from across the country to compete in what has become a prestigious platform for academic excellence and leadership development.
Parental Care's journey to the title included a significant victory over defending champions St. Francis Buddo in the quarterfinals—an upset that set the tone for their determined push to the top.
Speaking after the win, Mr. Kakuru Makyetero, the school's trainer, praised the pupils for their hard work, confidence, and discipline throughout the competition.
"The championship is more than just a competition – it's a platform for nurturing patriotism and leadership among young people," Mr. Kakuru said. "I want to thank the kids for preparing so well and the school for always standing with us. Winning is not easy, and now that we've set the pace, we must double our efforts."
The competition featured a range of challenging topics, including science, social studies, debate, current affairs, and leadership. Parental Care emerged as a standout in the debate round, where they tackled thought-provoking subjects such as "The Future of Learning in Africa."
Mr. Trevor Yebazamukama, the school's director, attributed the success to a well-rounded approach to education.
"We teach a child holistically. Apart from academic excellence, we also emphasize co-curricular activities," he said. "This win was sparked by our pupils' strong debating skills, teamwork, and critical thinking. Many learners benefit from such platforms."
Other notable schools that participated in the national competition included Bishop Cipriano Kihangire Primary School, Mbarara Junior School, Samaritan Primary School, and Brigton Junior School Bweyogerere, among others.
