Police in Butaleja District have launched investigations into a suspected suicide involving a 21-year-old Senior Three student of Alliance High School Busolwe, whose body was found hanging from a tree on Friday.
The deceased, Opendi Donato, commonly known as Junior, was a resident of Nagondo B Village, Mulagi Parish, Busaba Sub-county.
Moses Mugwe, the Bukedi South regional police spokesperson, confirmed that the body was discovered by a resident who was on his way to the garden. The resident alerted community leaders, including the LC1 chairperson, who later informed the police.
Mugwe said officers documented the scene and opened a case of suspected suicide, with detectives deployed to collect evidence and establish what may have led to the incident.
Police recovered a rope, a suicide note, and the student’s Primary Leaving Examination results slip from the scene.
Witness statements have also been recorded as part of the ongoing investigations.
The body was taken to Mbale City Mortuary for a postmortem examination as inquiries continue.
