KUMI – Four executive members of the Oladot Sheep Keeping SACCO, including the Parish Chief, have been arrested for allegedly soliciting money from SACCO members under the guise of enrollment into the government’s Parish Development Model (PDM) scheme. The suspects include Mr. Ityakorit Edmond, the Parish Chief of Oladot; Mr. Ojuma Anthony, the SACCO chairman; Mr. Ongodia Sliver, the secretary; and Mrs. Acham Teddy, the treasurer. Between June 2023 and May 2024, the group is alleged to have demanded payments from members in exchange for inclusion in the PDM program.

The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Kumi, Mr. Washaki Muhammad, received reports of the misconduct and immediately acted upon the information. The suspects were arrested with the help of the Kumi Police Station and are facing charges of obtaining money by false pretence.
Initial investigations revealed that despite collecting money from members, not all those enrolled were able to receive benefits from the PDM scheme. This has raised concerns about the integrity and management of the SACCO's operations.

Speaking on the matter, RDC Washaki emphasized the government's commitment to transparency in implementing development programs, warning against misuse of funds meant to uplift communities. The police are continuing investigations to establish the total amount of money collected and whether more members of the SACCO’s leadership were involved in the alleged scam.

Residents have called for stricter oversight and accountability measures to ensure the Parish Development Model fulfills its intended purpose of improving livelihoods at the grassroots.
