The State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SH-ACU), working with the Uganda Police Force, has charged and remanded a notorious fraudster who allegedly impersonated a senior Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) officer. Ssekidde Lubowa Godfrey was arraigned in court on charges of obtaining money by false pretences, forgery, and personation. He was remanded until January 21, 2026.
Prosecution told court that Ssekidde fraudulently obtained more than USD 197,570 from an investor after falsely claiming the money was required to facilitate a government contract for the supply of hand hoes and mosquito nets.
Investigators said the accused posed as Maj. Gen. Sam Kiwanuka, whom he claimed was attached to the Office of the President, in order to deceive his victims.
