Rubirizi – Health workers in Rubirizi District have launched an immunization campaign to kick off the Integrated Child Health Days (ICHDs), a biannual initiative held every April and October aimed at promoting child health and well-being through health facilities and community outreach services.
Speaking at the launch, Douglas Rwamutojo, the District Assistant Resident Commissioner, emphasized the importance of professionalism and compassion among health workers.
“Health workers should maintain a respectful attitude towards caregivers and children. You should also ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals involved, which is very crucial,” he said.
Dr. Aidah Nankinga, In-Charge at Rugazi Health Centre IV, stressed the importance of accurate documentation during the campaign.
“I urge you to maintain accurate records and report any challenges encountered during the campaign, as this is essential for effective service delivery,” she said.
The Integrated Child Health Days campaign plays a vital role in Uganda’s health sector, providing a platform for health workers to deliver life-saving vaccines and essential services to children across the country.
During the campaign, children benefit from:
Immunization against the six killer diseases: measles, polio, diphtheria, whooping cough, tuberculosis, and tetanus. Vitamin A supplementation, Deworming treatments, Other child and maternal health services
According to Dr. Driwale Alfred, Program Manager of the Uganda National Expanded Program on Immunization (UNEPI), the ICHDs are designed to help children who may have missed scheduled immunizations catch up on the required doses appropriate for their age.
In addition to vaccinations and treatments, the campaign also emphasizes community health education and awareness, helping families understand the importance of preventive healthcare and routine immunization.
