The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission has declared Jacqueline Mbabazi, wife to former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi, as the duly elected party flag bearer for the position of Older Persons Member of Parliament representing the Western Region.
According to the official declaration signed by Dr. Tanga Odoi, Chairperson of the NRM Electoral Commission, Mbabazi polled 189 votes, representing 58 percent, to defeat her closest rival, Patrick Kyamukaate Mutabwire, who garnered 137 votes, equivalent to 42 percent.

The re-election, held today across all districts in the Western Region, followed a directive from the NRM Elections Tribunal chaired by John Musiime, which had earlier nullified Mbabazi’s victory in the August election at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds. The tribunal cited irregularities in that poll, prompting the Electoral Commission to organize a fresh vote.
Unlike the previous election where delegates convened in one central location, today’s voting exercise was decentralized, allowing delegates to cast their ballots from their respective districts.
In the official declaration released at the NRM Headquarters in Kampala, Dr. Odoi confirmed that the fresh election was conducted in a transparent and peaceful manner.
“I therefore declare Jacqueline Mbabazi, who has polled the highest number of votes, representing 58 percent, as the duly elected NRM flag bearer for the position of Older Persons Member of Parliament representing the Western Region,” read part of the statement signed by Dr. Odoi.
