MUKONO -

As he continues with his campiagns for his sixth term, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in the company of his wife First Lady Janet Kataaha Museveni, have launched the National Resistance Movement (NRM) campaign in the Greater Mukono sub-region, beginning with a major mobilisation rally in Kayunga District.

Addressing supporters alongside senior NRM leaders, President Museveni highlighted notable progress in service delivery across the region, particularly in health, infrastructure and economic empowerment programmes. However, he stressed that sustained progress depends on active public oversight to ensure government initiatives deliver tangible benefits to citizens.
“The medicines in our health centres and the Parish Development Model (PDM) funds belong to the people,” President Museveni said. “They must be protected. Government programmes must be supervised by wananchi themselves.”

The President urged voters to elect NRM leaders who are capable of closely monitoring government programmes, ensuring proper implementation and taking responsibility for service delivery at all levels.

During the engagement, Museveni also addressed concerns raised by members of the Bakuku community over reported denial of passports. He clarified that Ugandan citizenship—whether by birth, registration or naturalisation—is guaranteed under the Constitution and should not be obstructed by unnecessary bureaucracy.
“No eligible Ugandan should be denied services because of administrative bottlenecks,” he said, reaffirming the government’s commitment to equal access to national identification and citizenship rights.

On economic transformation, President Museveni reiterated the NRM’s focus on job creation through commercial agriculture, irrigation, skills development and industrialisation. He encouraged leaders and residents in Kayunga to identify suitable land for the establishment of an industrial park, noting that industrial growth remains critical for absorbing Uganda’s growing workforce.

The President also reassured residents on land matters, emphasising that the Constitution recognises and protects all land tenure systems. He underscored government’s commitment to safeguarding lawful tenants from illegal evictions and resolving land-related disputes through legal frameworks.

First Lady Janet Museveni echoed the President’s message, calling on communities to remain united and actively participate in development programmes aimed at improving household incomes and social welfare.

The Kayunga rally marked the start of a broader NRM campaign tour across the Greater Mukono region, as the party seeks to consolidate support by highlighting development gains, governance reforms and inclusive economic growth.
