Village leaders in Jinja District have mediated a peaceful separation between two men who had been living under the same roof with one woman following a domestic dispute that attracted attention within the community.
The woman, Judith Babirye, 46, had reportedly been living with Steven Orwenyi for the last 10 months after believing that her former lover, Isaac Omoding, had died.
However, the situation took an unexpected turn on May 3, 2026, when Omoding resurfaced and returned to the village before moving into Babirye’s one-bedroom house.
According to Babirye, she chose to openly address the situation instead of hiding it from either man. She reportedly convened a meeting involving both men and proposed that they coexist peacefully in the same household.
Babirye said she had known Omoding for about a year before reports circulated that he had died, prompting her to begin a new relationship with Orwenyi.
“When Omoding returned to the village after a long time, there was no way I could deny him access to the house. This is how I resolved to live with both men, and I briefed Orwenyi about the new arrangement,” Babirye explained.
However, the arrangement reportedly became difficult to sustain after tensions developed between the two men.
Babirye said Orwenyi became increasingly uncomfortable sharing the home with another man, and the relationship further deteriorated after she accused him of stealing household items and insulting her openly.
Local leaders later intervened and mediated a peaceful separation to prevent the domestic disagreements from escalating further. No criminal charges had been reported.
