WAKISO

Three people have been remanded to prison over the alleged illegal takeover of the estate of a deceased person in Wakiso District.
The suspects were arraigned before the Makindye Magistrates Court by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, working jointly with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
They face charges of intermeddling with the estate of a deceased person, eviction of a lawful or bona fide occupant, destroying growing plants, forcible entry, malicious damage to property, theft, and trespassing on burial grounds. The accused persons are Male Umar, Nsereko Hood Mukasa Ssembatya, and Namboze Janat Nsubuga. They were remanded until April 29, 2026.

According to investigators, the accused allegedly committed the offences between 2024 and 2025 together with others who are still at large. It is alleged that they violently and unlawfully entered approximately four acres of land located at Ndejje-Lubugumu in Makindye-Ssabagabo Municipality, Wakiso District.
The land reportedly belongs to the estate of the late Ibrahim Katerega.

Prosecution states that the accused evicted lawful bona fide occupants without a court order, destroyed plantations, demolished houses with property still inside, and stole belongings with the help of armed goons allegedly carrying machetes and sticks.

The suspects are also accused of fencing off the land, including burial grounds, thereby denying rightful beneficiaries access to the estate.
Investigations further indicate that the accused allegedly participated in the sale of three acres of the deceased’s estate without obtaining letters of administration.
The case will return to court on April 29, 2026, as investigations continue.
