Three people have died and 10 others have been injured in a road crash involving a Toyota Hiace Drone, registration number UA 836AM, at Omukatagu along the Ishaka–Kagamba Road in Bushenyi District.
The crash occurred at about 4:40pm on Monday, September 7, 2026, as the vehicle was transporting mourners from Kashaka in Mbarara District to Rwererere in Rukungiri District.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver lost control after failing to negotiate a corner, reportedly due to excessive speed.

The injured victims were rushed to Kampala International University (KIU) Teaching Hospital in Ishaka and Kitagata Hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were taken to Kitagata Hospital mortuary pending postmortem examinations.

Traffic Police spokesperson Michael Kananura said preliminary findings indicate that speeding contributed to the crash.
“Preliminary findings indicate that speeding contributed to the crash,” Kananura said.

He urged motorists to reduce their speed when approaching corners and other high-risk sections of the road.
“Excessive speed reduces a driver's ability to react and safely negotiate bends,” Kananura warned.

Eyewitnesses said the driver fled the scene immediately after the crash.
The crash has renewed concerns about Omukatagu Corner, which has previously recorded fatal crashes.

In February 2025, four people were killed and 33 others injured in a crash at Omukatagu Village, Kyamugabo Parish, Ibaare Sub-county, along the same road.
Police said the victims were travelling in a Fuso lorry, registration number UAX 019K, carrying 37 members of the Faith of Unity religion from Kapyemi in Kagadi District to Kisoro District for prayers.
According to police, the lorry veered off the road, hit a pavement and overturned several times. Police attributed the crash to speeding.
