BUSHENYI

A security guard was injured and a firearm stolen after suspected thugs raided Kashenyi SACCO in Ishaka Division, Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality, prompting police to launch investigations into the incident.
The robbery occurred at about 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the SACCO's premises in Kashenyi II Cell, Kashenyi Ward, Ishaka Division.

According to police, four assailants armed with pangas and sticks attacked Karamuzi Aron, 28, a security guard attached to Global Link Security Services, before robbing him of a pump-action rifle loaded with three rounds of ammunition.

Karamuzi sustained injuries to his head and knee and was rushed to Kampala International University (KIU) Teaching Hospital for treatment.

Greater Bushenyi Regional Police spokesperson SP Apollo Tayebwa said officers responded to the scene and immediately commenced investigations.
"We are pursuing all leads to recover the firearm, identify the attackers, and establish the motive behind the robbery," Tayebwa said.

The latest incident comes amid heightened public concern over crime in Kashenyi and the surrounding areas.

Earlier this year, police arrested Kankiriho Ramathan, alias Samuel, 21, a security guard attached to Blue Water Guard Private Security Company, over an alleged aggravated robbery at a bar in Katooma Cell, Ryeishe Parish, Ibaare Sub-county.

Police said the suspect allegedly held several people at gunpoint before robbing them of cash.
He was later arrested after being apprehended by residents, leading to the recovery of the stolen money and a firearm belonging to the security company.

Police have also been investigating the killing of businessman Abias Asiimwe in Kashenyi Trading Centre. Asiimwe was allegedly attacked and killed by a tenant during a dispute over rent arrears.

These incidents have raised concerns among residents, who are calling for increased security patrols and stronger measures to combat crime in the area.

However, Tayebwa urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious individuals or activities to security agencies.

He also called on private security companies to strengthen supervision of their personnel and ensure the proper management of firearms issued to guards.
"Private security companies must exercise strict supervision over their personnel. Security is a shared responsibility, and we encourage the public to continue working closely with law enforcement agencies," he said.

Police have appealed to anyone with information that could assist investigations into the Kashenyi SACCO robbery to report to the nearest police station.
