Sheema municipality gets new ambulance

By Our Reporter

Sheema - The Ministry of Health has donated a brand-new Type B ambulance to Sheema Municipality to boost healthcare services in the area. The ambulance was received by Hon. Rosemary Nyakikongoro, the Sheema District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Dickson Kateshumbwa, the Sheema Municipality MP, and other local leaders. The Type B ambulance will be stationed at Kabwohe Health Centre IV in Sheema Municipality, enhancing emergency medical services for the local community. While receiving the ambulance, Hon. Dickson Kateshumbwa urged health workers to utilize the vehicle for its intended purposes, ensuring it effectively serves the community.

"During my tenure at the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), we intercepted ambulances that purported to transport patients but were instead carrying smuggled goods, including cigarettes from Kasese. Our intelligence-led operations enabled us to detect these cases. I caution against the misuse of this ambulance and urge you to use it strictly for legitimate healthcare purposes," Kateshumbwa warned.
Kateshumbwa revealed that the ambulance would be equipped with a detection device to enhance its security and identify potential misuse.

Hon. Rosemary Nyakikongoro noted that Kabwohe Health Centre IV has been overwhelmed with patients and requested the Ministry of Health to consider upgrading it to a district hospital.
Additionally, she highlighted that the medicines supplied by the National Medical Stores to the Health Centre are insufficient due to the high patient volume, further straining the facility's resources.

Dr. Silver Bahendeka, a renowned diabetes specialist in Uganda, announced plans to establish a diabetes facility at Kabwohe Health Centre IV to provide specialized care and treatment for diabetic patients in the district.
"During the COVID-19 pandemic, I conducted a survey in three districts — Mbarara, Isingiro, and Sheema — and found that approximately 7% of the population had diabetes, often without being aware of their condition," said Dr. Bahendeka. "As a result, we plan to establish a diabetes facility at Kabwohe Health Centre IV to provide specialized care and treatment for patients."
