Buhweju – Police in Buhweju District are investigating the apparent suicide of a 21-year-old security guard, Turyamuhaki Victor, who died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on April 27, 2025.
Greater Bushenyi Police Spokesperson SSP Martial Tumusiime confirmed the incident, which has been registered under Buhweju C.R.B. 156/2025, as an alleged suicide.

According to SSP Tumusiime, Turyamuhaki, an employee of Agri-Security Ltd stationed at Muhame Financial Services SACCO in Butare, returned home at approximately 10:00 p.m. on April 26 while still in uniform and carrying his service submachine gun (SMG). He reportedly went to bed with the firearm.
“His wife, Orishaba Pellon, told police that around 5:56 a.m. on April 27, she heard her husband removing ammunition from the gun,” SSP Tumusiime stated. “Moments later, she heard a gunshot and found him dead in their bed.”

Orishaba immediately alerted Turyamuhaki’s coworker, Arinda Nicholas, who then notified the police.
Police responded to the scene and recovered the SMG along with four rounds of ammunition. The body was transported to Nsiika Health Centre IV for a post-mortem examination.
“The investigation is ongoing as we continue to gather more information surrounding the circumstances of the incident,” SSP Tumusiime added.
