Francis Kyegarikye has bounced back as chairman of Mbarara Sports Club following his election to the seat he has served in more than any other past leader. In an elective assembly held at the clubhouse yesterday evening, Kyegarikye regained the position at the vibrant club with a landslide 76 percent after collecting 35 votes, compared to his challenger Johnson Kakuhikire, who got 11.
Bernad Amwiine was elected vice chairman, replacing Cleophas Karooma, while Rhina Mushagara stepped into the shoes of Oriokot Francis Olupot as secretary. Prof. Nixon Kamukama replaced Dr. Twinomujuni Silverno as treasurer, while Woods Gabriel retained his position as club captain.
An experienced business manager, Francis Ishanga Kyegarikye is not new to this position, having served in the same capacity for four consecutive terms in 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022.
Joseph Oloro prepares to pat
Kyegarikye promised to keep the club vibrant by taking golf to the grassroots, especially schools, now that international schools’ sports competitions have included the sport on their calendar. He also pledged to expand the golf course from nine to 18 holes and to ignite the renovation of Booma Primary School, which was started by the club as a way of giving back to the community through education.
He replaces Joseph Oloro, to whom he coincidentally handed over in 2022 after signing out, as Oloro went on to serve three consecutive terms. Founded in 1914, Mbarara Sports Club is one of the oldest and most distinguished recreational institutions in Western Uganda.

Originally established as a hub for education, sports, recreation and social interaction among senior citizens of Mbarara Town (now Mbarara City), the club has grown into a vibrant centre that welcomes members from all backgrounds.
