The tournament in Morocco will bring together the continent’s best youth teams from different regions as they compete for continental glory and qualification for the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar.
Uganda secured qualification for the finals through the Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) zonal qualifiers after reaching the final of the regional tournament held in November last year in Ethiopia, where they lost 3–2 to eventual champions Tanzania. The team entered residential camp on Wednesday morning at the FUFA Technical Centre Njeru.
Last year, the Uganda Cubs made history by becoming the first Ugandan football team to qualify for the U-17 World Cup in Qatar, where they reached the Round of 16 before being knocked out by fellow Africans Burkina Faso.
Uganda finished among the 10 teams that qualified for the junior tournament, which FIFA has turned into an annual event. The first five editions will be hosted by Qatar, starting with last year’s tournament.
