MITOOMA
Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Ruhinda North MP Thomas Tayebwa has said some Parish Development Model (PDM) committees in Mitooma District will be dissolved after evidence emerged that they disregarded programme guidelines and allegedly attempted to exploit beneficiaries.
Tayebwa made the remarks during constituency engagements in Mitooma, where he was accompanied by Mitooma District Woman Representative Rebecca Kyarampe and district leaders.
He said investigations had established that some committees were not following the established guidelines for accessing and managing PDM funds, raising concerns about the treatment of beneficiaries, particularly vulnerable residents.
PDM Beneficiaries Report Losses
Tayebwa also raised concerns about beneficiaries who invested their PDM funds in enterprises such as piggery and farming but subsequently lost their investments.
He said the challenges faced by the beneficiaries would be taken up at the national level to identify appropriate interventions and address gaps affecting the implementation of the programme.
The Deputy Speaker reminded residents that PDM funds are intended to support household income-generating activities and do not require beneficiaries to pay money or provide land as collateral.
He urged residents to report individuals or officials who demand bribes or other payments before they can access PDM funds.
Tayebwa said action would be taken against those found violating the guidelines governing the programme.
